Self-Published Fiction Contest

Self-Published Fiction Authors: Win a Spot at the Morristown Festival of Books!

In celebration of the wealth of local talent, the Festival is delighted to announce a new contest for self-published novelists in Morris and Somerset counties!

This is our first year including a self-published author at the Festival. MFOB features a diverse group of authors in conversations, panels, and presentations. We can’t wait to discover the self-published star in our midst and welcome you to MFOB 2018! When evaluating submissions, we consider not only a book’s literary merit but also where it might fit in with the other work in the festival lineup. Judges’ decisions are final.

The contest winner will be showcased at the Main Festival on Saturday, October 13, as a presenting author, promoted alongside our full author roster. The author’s book will also be made available for purchase and signing that day.

If you are interested in being considered to be a presenting author at the Festival, please follow these guidelines for submission:

Only one submission per author.

The submission must be postmarked by June 1, 2018.

Entry must be published as a physical book; e-book only formats are not eligible.

The submission must be a work of adult fiction. Non-fiction, YA, and children’s books are not eligible for this contest.

Your submission must include:

  • Name
  • Legal address: only authors who live or work in Morris or Somerset Counties are eligible
  • Proof of residency or workplace, such as photocopy of a valid driver’s license, current utility bill, vehicle registration, workplace ID card, or letter from employer on company letterhead; feel free to black out any information, aside from name, address and date, that you prefer to keep private

  • 2 copies of your book, which will not be returned
