About the author
Erica Katz is the pseudonym for a graduate of Columbia Law School who began her career at a major Manhattan law firm. Katz’s first novel, The Boys’ Club, was a timely, page-turning workplace drama for the #MeToo era that earned comparisons to The Devil Wears Prada and The Wolf of Wall Street and landed on the “Must Read” lists of outlets including Good Morning America, Buzzfeed, Cosmopolitan, and the New York Post. A native of New Jersey, she now lives in New York City, where she’s employed at another large law firm.
MFOB featured book: Fake
With Fake, Erica Katz returns with an incisive blend of contemporary drama and psychological suspense that exposes the realities of the high-stakes art world.
As Fake opens, Emma Caan is being grilled by the FBI. After Yale and in need of work, the talented artist applied her considerable talents to becoming a professional art copier for museums and über-wealthy collectors alike—a legitimate gig where a legal duplicate of a masterwork is made for the owner of the original. Impressed with her work, Russian oligarch art collector Leonard Sobetsky tenders an invitation that offers Emma a new path—and more money than she’s ever imagined. But Emma is not prepared for the price she will need to pay for this opportunity and opulent life, nor can she foresee the ways her new life will converge with her troubled past in dangerous ways. Now that she’s landed in the FBI hot seat, is Emma a fake in more ways than one?
