MFOB featured book: Our Little World
Set in the 1980s in a small and idyllic New Jersey town, Our Little World centers on two sisters and their fraught relationship, which becomes forever altered in the aftermath of a neighborhood girl’s disappearance. It’s a remarkable, heart-rending debut drawn on Winn’s own sheltered upbringing in Mendham, NJ, her lifelong passion for storytelling, and her medical background for this coming-of-age novel.
Readers will be swept away by the story’s many layers: it’s about girls growing up, it’s a look at a small town in crisis, it’s a mystery, and it’s a love letter to the ’80s. From the music, to the clothes, to the furniture, to the language and attitudes, Winn dedicated herself to getting every detail just so, right down to her depiction of what it meant for a child to have a disease at that time.
Our Little World delves into a spectrum of issues that resonate more than ever today, including the notion that life can all change at a moment’s notice.
