MFOB featured book: The Winner
In The Winner, Conor O’Toole is fresh out of a third-tier law school and gets a summer gig as the tennis pro at the exclusive New England coastal enclave of Cutters Neck. His two goals are to study for the bar and make some desperately needed money for his hammering school loans and diabetic mother’s expensive medication. A working-class kid from Yonkers, Conor is both awed and somewhat put off by this rarified world he has been dropped into. When Catherine, a beautiful divorcée nearly twice his age, comes onto him during their lessons, Conor is both incredulous and aroused, and their secret erotic affair is like nothing he has ever experienced. He manages to juggle it with a more appropriate romance with an artsy girl his own age whom he meets on the beach—until he makes an irreversible mistake.
